The filler your clinician uses, the body part treated, and your medical history determine the process. Here are some general expectations:

Most filler treatments take 15–30 minutes and need one clinic visit.

The results are immediate but due to uneven swelling the true results take about 2 weeks to be seen. Ice or topical anesthetic may be used apon request if you are very sensitive to pain.

Results can last anywhere between 5 months and two years.

Some patients may feel temporary discomfort during the treatment but it usually subsides the same day.

• Resume normal activities after leaving the office.
• Unless instructed to massage, avoid touching the treated area for three days.
• Don’t lie down the first few hours after treatment
• Exercise or strenuous activities should be delayed 24-48 hours after the treatment
• Avoid indoor tanning and the sun for 72 hours
• Makeup can be applied before leaving the office provided your makeup isn’t years old.
• If you notice increasing pain, swelling or changes in skin color call the office immediately.
• Poly-L-lactic acid fillers require 5 minutes of gentle massage many times a day for 1 to 2 weeks. Your dermatologist will advise you on massage. 

Refrain from coffee or tea the morning of your injections.  Avoid pain medications especially medications that contain aspirin such as motrin, advil, and prescription pain killers. Many supplements cause bruising…when in doubt…leave it out.

This varies by filler. Fillers rarely cause downtime. Ask your dermatologist about downtime.
